Planning the Portfolio

For this English Culminating assignment we as students must create a portfolio. Within this portfolio we must include one essay, and three other media texts to deliver the information that is needed to complete the portfolio. For the portfolio we must choose our topic based on a book and analyze it based on a theoretical point of view ranging from a reader response, archetypal, feminist, or postcolonial point of view. Nonetheless in this blog post today I wish to map out my plan for this portfolio.

For the essay section of my portfolio I have decided that from the options of a narrative, persuasive, or argumentative essay I have chosen to write a narrative essay. I find that with this essay format I would be able to tell a story using both the Kite Runner as well as my experiences that I have seen occur in society or from what I have done. To me this seems to be a perfect fit as I viewed this story in a reader response point of view, which is based on the reader’s experiences and may determine me as the reader on how I viewed the story of the Kite Runner.

As for the three media texts, there are five options ranging from a blog post, a podcast, a concept map, web page, or a remix. The decision that I have made for selecting the options to include into my portfolio is to use a blog post, concept map, and a remix. The reason as to why I would include a blog post into my portfolio is because it is something that I have had a lot of practice with as I have had to create blogs on a frequent basis, and so adding this to my portfolio gives me confidence in that I would do well.

As for the next two spots in my portfolio I will put in a remix and a concept map. The reason as to why I want to include a remix in my portfolio is because in the past I didn’t do too well in a remix assignment, so I would like to use this one in order to redeem myself and prove that I am capable of being able to deliver quality work in the form of a remix. Something that also influenced my decision is that I also have an idea of what to do that will relate to the topic of my portfolio.

Now for the third and final piece of my portfolio I will include a concept map. My reasoning for including this into my portfolio is because I have experience in creating concept maps in the past so I am confident in it playing another part in me being successful with this portfolio. I also have an idea with what I want to do with the concept map as well which is good in starting an assignment that requires many pieces in little time.

All in all I would say my plan is pretty good for my portfolio, wouldn’t you say so yourself?
