Is English in High School Really That Important for University?

For me, I would have to say that learning English at a university level in all grades throughout high school is a necessity, and should be a requirement in order to enter any or every university. Not only do I believe this for Canadian universities but also for any other English speaking countries, such as England or our neighbors the United States. I say it is a necessity to learn all throughout high school because it is important to develop the knowledge you already have of your language and to keep it growing because you will keep using it for the rest of your life. So by completing English courses throughout high school, it will help prepare you for university and in the real world such as the work place.

How does English expand a students knowledge?
English classes in high school are so important and crucial to a students life as it will prepare them for university/the workplace. In these areas there is a high level of expectation, in the way you communicate, the way you act, and the way you present yourself. So it is the communication section where the English classes have the biggest impact. For example; in English classes students learn many things such as how to write a persuasive or comparative essay properly, how to write an email, and how to write a letter. These are all things that will all be used in University so it is important to build the knowledge in order to write these things at a top level. not only does English teach students these type of writing formats it also helps expand a students vocabulary and teaching new techniques by teaching new words by having to read books in order to complete the class.(This is a good thing because I don't think there's going to be many teenagers who are going to freely pick up a book and read it.) When a student develops the knowledge of how to write in different formats and also uses a more wider vocabulary it will help allow them to be taken more seriously in University and help showcase their knowledge better, but what do you think? Is English in high school all that important? or can you be successful in university or even in life without taking English classes in high school?
